Shoegaze then, shoegaze now, shoegaze forever. Shoegaze in the fall, shoegaze in the spring. jimrats making shoegaze work 24/7.
Emerging from Boston's noise scene is 5-piece jimrat, since forming in 2020, they have released 3 EP’s the latest being “home” which was put out early this year, and a handful of singles over the past four years. Now the band is taking an exciting venture with their unreleased album instant, allowing the band to become the most abstract they have ever been.

jimrat is an up and coming band following a long history of scenic emo bands coming out of the Northeast. They have a rich pool of influences to drag from including bands like Sonic Youth from New York, and Sunny Day Real Estate from New Jersey. Both of these influences shine through in jimrat’s frequent use of reverb and how they often let the instrumentals speak for themselves.
Instant starts out with a vague and gloomy first track “chorale”. If you like Ethel Cain, this is the album for you. In the true spirit of Ethel Cain, this headlining track makes listeners feel uneasy yet beautifully inspired while listening. This song sets the tone for the entire piece putting the audience in a paranormal state and keeping them there until the work concludes with the final track “truly”. The final track is headed by one of the amazing female singers in jimrat, and it concludes the album perfectly by wrapping it up neatly.

In the entire album most of the songs flow seamlessly from one to another but track seven, “come around” proves itself as an outlier. This rather upbeat and traditional style track is by far their standout song; it is perfectly placed in the album just over halfway through and is packed with beautifully layered vocals and well-articulated lyrics.
Anticipating the album coming out on April 11th, jimrat published their newest set of singles, the last one being “home”. While releasing the track to the public they also posted a music video to go along with the single.
After having singles trickle out of their hands and into the public over the past two months jimrats debut album Instant will be given to the public. The band is playing sneak peeks of their unreleased songs in small venues here and there, like at O'brien's Pub in Massachusetts, but there is no official tour scheduled.
