From August 5-9, the picturesque town of Eschwege in Germany will once again welcome around 20,000 music lovers for five unforgettable days of live performances, street theatre, comedy and culture. Set along the banks of the Werra River, Open Flair has built a reputation as one of Europe's most beloved festivals. It’s large enough to attract international headliners, yet intimate enough to make every visitor feel at home.
Organized almost entirely by volunteers from the non-profit Arbeitskreis Open Flair e.V., the festival has remained true to its roots for more than four decades, earning multiple awards and a loyal following that returns year after year.
Following its 40th anniversary celebration in 2024, the 2026 edition marks the 42nd Open Flair Festival, a remarkable achievement for an event that has never lost its independent character.
Unlike many large commercial festivals, Open Flair has always focused on creating an experience rather than simply presenting concerts. Music remains at its heart, but comedy, theatre, street performances and visual arts are just as much a part of its DNA.
This year's lineup once again combines international stars, German chart-toppers and exciting newcomers.
Biffy Clyro
Scottish rock icons Biffy Clyro return with the explosive live show that has made them one of Europe's most respected festival acts. From emotional ballads like “Many of Horror” to arena-sized anthems such as “Mountains” and “Biblical”, their performances are renowned for combining technical brilliance with raw intensity.
Dropkick Murphys
If there's one concert guaranteed to become a giant singalong, it's Dropkick Murphys. The Boston Celtic punk legends have spent nearly three decades delivering high-energy performances packed with crowd favourites including “I'm Shipping Up to Boston” and “Rose Tattoo”. Expect one of the liveliest audiences of the entire weekend.
Giant Rooks
Having evolved from indie newcomers into one of Germany's most successful international bands, Giant Rooks continue to captivate audiences with their sophisticated songwriting and atmospheric live performances. Their appearance promises one of the festival's emotional highlights.
SDP
Blending hip-hop, pop and rock with tongue-in-cheek humour, SDP have become one of Germany's biggest live attractions. Their colourful stage production and infectious party atmosphere make them a perfect fit for the Open Flair crowd.
Donots
Few bands have a closer relationship with Open Flair than Donots. The punk rock veterans from Ibbenbüren are celebrated for their relentless energy and genuine connection with fans, making every appearance feel like a homecoming.
Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls
British singer-songwriter Frank Turner has built a devoted international following thanks to his unique blend of folk storytelling and punk energy. His concerts are heartfelt, uplifting and guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
Feine Sahne Fischfilet
Known for their uncompromising punk rock and emotionally charged performances, Feine Sahne Fischfilet consistently deliver one of the most passionate live shows on any festival bill
With more than 70 artists performing across several stages, visitors can expect a weekend that effortlessly blends rock, punk, indie, alternative, pop, hip-hop and electronic music.
Open Flair unfolds across five days, with Wednesday serving as the traditional opening day before the festival reaches full speed from Thursday through Saturday. Sunday's performances provide the perfect finale to an unforgettable weekend.
Concerts are spread across several distinctive stages: The Werdchen Main Stage, Lake Stage, Hof Stage, Bob Stage, E-Werk, Electro Garden.
As Open Flair enters its 42nd edition, it continues to prove that bigger isn't always better. By combining an outstanding line-up with creativity, authenticity and a uniquely personal atmosphere, the festival has established itself as one of Europe's hidden gems.
Whether you're coming for the explosive rock shows of Biffy Clyro, the Celtic punk celebration of Dropkick Murphys, the indie brilliance of Giant Rooks, or simply to experience one of Germany's friendliest festival communities, Open Flair Festival 2026 promises another unforgettable chapter in its remarkable story.
