LANDON CONRATH COLLAGES PAST PERSONAS INTO ONE TRUTH ON NEW EP
Self proclaimed “Debbie Downer pessimist” Landon Conrath makes everyone else’s day better with his music. Now he’s trying to return to when it made him just as happy.
With Songs of a Past Life Conrath lifts a big emotional weight off of his chest. The EP consists of six songs written and rewritten from 2020 to 2024, across the tracks he works through the emotions and anxieties he’s had as a person and artist over the past four years.
Using his social media platforms and lyrics Conrath often dives into what it really means to be a small artist. Between the optimistic spin to pessimism often related to risk-taking while expanding a fanbase (see: DIY touring) on “Debbie Downer” and the anxiety-ridden, electric guitar heavy jam “Overrated” about chasing after people who aren’t there for you in love and artistry Conrath delivers his emotions as they come.
Sonically Songs of a Past Life incorporates aspects of the electronic style seen on his first album, and his signature driving drums, but highlights electric guitars (and shows how important catchy background vocals are) creating an alt-rock style similar to that of The Band CAMINO. The one thing present in every single song is an indecipherable ingredient that makes them automatic ear worms.
This group of songs were put out together because they, according to an Instagram post dated March 29, remind Conrath of “how simple it was to make music back before it is what it is now”. An evident display of personal and professional growth, the EP serves fans with six perfect songs to take into summer – let’s hope it also serves Conrath his purpose.
