DESPERATE LOOKS GOOD ON BABIE JULEZ
Babie Julez, the artist name under which Julia Affinito releases music, is playing with fire. She’s burned out, burning bridges, getting fired up, or a combination of all three. Whatever it is, she’s blazing a trail and the whole world should be watching.
On her latest single “Desperate For Love In The 21st Century” she’s sick of being told that she’s another of the same, a “stupid little girl” with “no thoughts, head empty” – especially if she’s waiting on time in someone’s navy bed sheets, to be someone’s beck and call or to makeout in someone’s car.
At least she has someone to blame for the way she is. In all honesty, her rage isn’t even her fault – it’s her dad’s – her ex's was all his fault.
The song, an anthem for the rage that she’s now ready to let go of, was made possible with production from (Disaster’s favorite duo) Connor Hanson and (who also mixed the piece) and Gregory Thomas Pease.
Affinato shared thanks to all of the creatives on this project, including photographer Bella Rose Durante and Justin VanNiekerk, who saw her specific vision all the way through.
“We did reference Wednesday quite a bit when making these next batch of songs. For this song specifically, we referenced ‘Bull Believer’ as our song also has a sweet progression throughout and completely flies off the handle at the end,” she said of the inspiration behind the music that would let this story live to its fullest. “I want to create a new world for my listeners both old and new. I am beyond thrilled to see it finally come to life.”
The new world she’s creating is still fundamentally her – maybe the most out of her entire discography thus far. Affinito has successfully blended her two writing styles “fun and careless and sexy” and “sobbing on the ground” to make a rocking hit that touches on emotional topics with absolutely graceless levels of acceptance, creating lyrics that will take your breath away.
“While I absolutely love everything I’ve put out and am so proud of my growth as an artist, I’d say my least genuine songs would probably be ‘4THEPLOT’ and ‘FBH’ because they are both satirical and were just me being funny!” she explains, while still noting the importance and creative excitement those brought to her life.
Now as she stuns with lyrics like “destroy my world to heal you” and “feeling special in your navy blue sheets” it is quickly obvious that“Desperate For Love In the 21st Century” is a bit of an exaggeration. What Julez is actually desperate for is for all of her terrible exes to disappear, and if that involves fire, so be it.
