YOU OUGHTA KNOW FLIQ

Sonically nestled somewhere between hypebeast-bedroom-pop, glitch-core and alt-folk lies fresh two-piece, Fliq. At present, they lean more towards the latter, meshing crisp production with uber-organic folky twang in their debut single “Oh Buddy.” The duo, composed of Connor Hanson and Gregory Thomas Pease, was started as an outlet to explore their personal musical creativity outside of their careers producing for others. Furthermore, it was also an excuse for them to just hang out with each other. And to promote their joint songwriting and production services. (Both of which are pretty good, with credits on the likes of Flycatcher, Jwalttz and Abby Kenna.)

The pair met when Pease began interning as a songwriter at a recording studio where Hanson produced and engineered, and they hit it off from there.

“We developed our own relationship and realized we had a mutual respect for each other, instead of it being more of a ‘I know more than you’ type thing,” explained Pease.

The two began collaborating on music for Pease’s band, Flycatcher, realized they never walk out of a session with a bad song, and never looked back. Fliq’s newest and first release “Oh Buddy” is a testament of the two’s experience in production and songwriting. The single is laced with an addicting guitar riff and satisfying drums that will make your least favorite person start air drumming.

Lyrically, the song is remnant of sibling love and playground tussles. Pease’s take on the song resembling the phrase “Why I oughta,” perfectly captures the energy of the instigative lyrics wrapped in a lighthearted arrangement.

Looking towards the future, Fliq intends on remaining as a core duo of the skilled musician producers they are, and release an EP with friends acting as their band. If a distant cousin raised in the sticks had a child with a BAPE wearing internet star, it would be Fliq.
