“What’s Fair” - Blondshell

Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum is exploring congenitally messy and turbulent mother-daughter relationships under the moniker Blondshell in latest soul-cleansing, raw alt-rock anthem, “What’s Fair.” Grungily sunny instrumentation frames raw lyrics that capture the essence of confusing and gut-wrenching maternal bonds that so many grapple with. Blondshell is begging the question: “What’s a fair assessment \ Of the job you did \ Do you ever regret it?”

I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet (Deluxe) - Del Water Gap

Holden Samuel Jaffe, better known as Del Water Gap is proving he’s not leaving anytime soon with the deluxe release of his 2023 album, I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet. The record houses three new tracks: “Purple Teeth, The Bravery,” “Midas” and “Doll House - Live.” Drunk thoughts are sober words in “Purple Teeth, The Bravery,” which tells the tale of dazed wine-driven nights ending in spilled guts and wistfulness. “Midas” is an honest, cathartic, agonizing ode to self-sabotage; the track’s chorus insists “I’ll make a truce with myself and I don't reckon that I'm cursed \ But everything I touch turns eventually to dirt.” The buttressed I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet adds to the complexity and depth of the artist world of Del Water Gap, solidifying Jaffe’s standing as a pillar in the alternative-indie world.

“LEGS” - Annie Dirusso

For those opting out of  “Cuffing Season” and into No Fucks Fall, this song is for you. Annie DiRusso is the princess of Femme Alt-Rock, once again taking her throne with new song “Legs”. Other than the fact that they help her write killer songs, she’s done with “situationships” (what does that word even mean!!) and what they do to her mental health. “Legs” boasts a simple but undeniably catchy electric guitar progression that gives the listener motivation to follow Annie in her mission: “I’m done making myself sick / I’ll give what I get / You can leave, you can stay.” Fans waited 10 months from the first time DiRusso teased the song on TikTok to its release, but she has assured that her next release will come much sooner.

Romance - Fontaines D.C.

Every album Fontaines D.C. has ever made has arguably been the best album they’ve ever made – Romance is no different. Low and slow this album tears at your heart before Conor Curley punches/steps on the kick drum. From the very first verse, and even before that through the dark, pervasive soundscape and bright bloated visuals of the project, the band’s desire for release is evident. The five piece band’s fourth studio album situates them outside of Dublin City (the “D.C.” in their name) watching down on how their lives have changed. Lead single “Starburster” details lead singer Grian Chatten’s panic attack, “How I feel? / I wanna keel”, over a post-punk guitar line featuring Chatten gasping for breath throughout the refrain of him begging for something to make him feel better. Romance is not a cookie cutter of A Hero’s Death, yes you can turn to “Death Kink” or “Bug” for the familiarity you’re seeking, but this is Fontaines D.C., expect the unexpected.

“Running” - Robert Matt Silvers

“Running,” the latest release by Robert Matt Silvers, is an engaging exploration of vulnerability and hope. Silvers has continued to build his reputation of emotional songwriting and evocative melodies with this new track, touching on themes of longing, escape and personal identity. Sonically, the single blends nuanced instrumentals that cinematically back introspective lyrics. As he continues to explore new soundscapes and lyrical themes, “Running” stands as a testament to Silvers’ evolving artistry.

Garden State Vampire - Joe P

Joe P emerged from his basement in New Jersey for the first time in a year to release his long awaited debut album Garden State Vampire. The former front man of Deal Casino has been working as a solo artist, touring and releasing singles and EPs, since 2020. The eleven track LP features six singles – four released for this project, and two (“Off My Mind” and “Fighting In The Car”) featured in past EPs – that perfectly encompass all of the storytelling and addictive melodies that come with Joe P’s music. On Garden State Vampire Parella goes deeper than he ever has, deeper into his lyrics, his own head and his ability to push himself as a musician, and it’s safe to say the risks he took were worth it. Album standouts “She Got Me”, “Birthday Baby (The Girl with No Smile)” and “Nothing At All” show just how much Joe P has changed – but he references New Jersey three times (and how much he hates California twice), so don’t worry too much.
