Bumps, SWEAT, and Tears: Sweat Tour Review
Thursday, October 03, 2024: A night to remember. There I was, standing in a pit, absolutely sobbing as Troye Sivan performed “Rager teenager!”— completely unprepared for the quick transition to jumping and screaming as Charli xcx lit up the stage with “Club classics.”
On this unforgettable night, Troye Sivanand Charli xcx brought their highly anticipated Sweat Tour to Atlanta, Georgia, and they did not disappoint. The Sweat Tour is everything you’d expect—gritty, sweaty, sexy—the iconic duo have created a euphoric club night experience that fans have come to crave.
The evening kicked off with an opening set from Shygirl, a rising artist that blends hip-hop and dance-pop. Shygirl’s infectious energy was met with enthusiastic cheers and perfectly primed the crowd for Troye and Charli.
Troye was the first to take the stage, launching into his hit single, “Got Me Started,” from his latest album Something To Give Each Other. It was the perfect show opener, with Troye delivering stellar choreography alongside his backup dancers. He followed with two more songs before passing the stage to the supreme party queen herself.
As brat-green curtains enveloped the stage, the crowd erupted into a roar of 20,000 voices. The intro to “365” started, the curtains dropped, and there stood Charli, commanding the stage like a force of nature. She tore through “365,” “360” and “Von Dutch” in quick succession, as beams of light filled the venue and the pit became a sea of jumping, screaming bodies. This three-song sprint felt like a full-body workout, but no one in the crowd would have had it any other way.
Then my favorite part of the night began. Troye returned, this time without his dancers, for a more intimate set of songs. He performed “In My Room,” “Dance to This,” and “Rager teenager!”— as someone who grew up watching his YouTube videos, hearing these songs felt like a deeply personal experience. I started tearing up during “Dance to This,” and “Rager teenager!,” and was fully sobbing to the point that I couldn’t even see the stage. Before I had a chance to recover, Charli was back, and the infectious beats of “Club Classics” pulled me right back into the frenzy.
For the rest of the night, Troye and Charli alternated performances, each one more electrifying than the last. Charli delivered jaw-dropping moments like that of “Guess,” when she spat on the stage and then licked it up, while Troye serenaded the crowd with “Bloom,” the iconic title track from his second album. The setlist was stacked with crowd favorites—from Charli’s edgy “Vroom Vroom” to Troye’s sultry “STUD.”
By the end of the night, the crowd had gone absolutely wild, the pit a chaotic wave of bodies bouncing so much that I could barely catch a glimpse of the stage; I had zero complaints. The final two songs, “Rush” and the “Talk talk” remix, got the crowd screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs, the energy in the room peaking in an unmatched frenzy of euphoria.
When the lights finally came on and the show ended, I stood there, along with countless others, soaking in the moment and reflecting on what I had just witnessed. As I slowly made my way out of the arena and into the streets, my concert-addicted friends and I couldn’t stop recapping the night. One thing was clear: Sweat Tour Atlanta was one for the books.
